Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes train you to take and pass the CNA test for the state. Passing the CNA test with 80% will enable them to work as Certified Nursing Assistants under the guidance of registered nurses. This test has both theory and clinical testing.

CNA training classes are also available as an online training program that you can take up from home at a very affordable price. The period of training may range from two weeks to several months depending on the demands from the state. This training program explains the theory and shows few clinical findings. When appropriate, you can do your clinical hands-on work at a hospital or nursing home. This will help you gain clinical experience. After training, you will be qualified to care for physically or mentally sick, injured, or disabled individuals in hospitals, and nursing homes.

Once trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will be able to perform the following health care jobs confidently:

Measuring vitals signs like temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration

Recording the case history for every patient

Moving patients when required

Helping the patient exercise as the advice of a Physical therapist

Dressing the wounds for patients

Feeding the patient.

Inserting catheters and removing them as advised.

Disinfecting the patient’s room and belongings.

Communicating well with the patients.

Reporting the day-to-day development of the patient to the registered nurse or doctor.

This training also helps you to gain confidence and expertise in few basic health care jobs. This is what will be expected of you in your CNA test. You will have both theory and practical tests. Theory test, you can clear with just what you have studied. As far as practical is concerned, it is not just the intelligence that is tested. You are tested for presence of mind. They check how are you able to face the situation. How confident are you. How boldly are you moving around and doing your duty. How neat are you able to keep the surroundings.

These are the requirements that this training program will equip you with. This CNA training program equips you with all the required amount of confidence and knowledge that will take you through this CNA test with flying colours.

After becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant some people make their career in this line itself, whereas some of them consider this training program as a stepping-stone to become registered nurses (RN). The CNA training program is a boon for the already certified individuals who just need a brush up to renew or reapply for the certification.

Nursing prerequisites are the course requirements you’ll need to enroll in a nursing school program. In all cases, you’ll need a high-school diploma in order to become a nurse.

Most programs, whether you’re pursuing a Registered Nurse (RN) degree, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification, or a Bachelors will select the students based on the GPA of the pre-req courses among other requirements such as a nursing pre-entrance exam. So making the best grades you can in these courses will help your chances of gaining entry. Speak to an advisor at the college you hope to attend and they can help answer all your questions.

For nursing prerequisites, some of the courses you’ll need will depend on the particular nursing program that you are applying to, however there are some general guidelines. To begin with, you want to make sure you’re taking all of your general education courses. This also allows you to focus on your nursing coursework once you are in the nursing program. Some other general requirements would be a human development course (usually under psychology), an introductory or general chemistry class, nutrition, sociology, and algebra.

Keep in mind that while all nursing prerequisites must be completed prior to enrolling in nursing courses, you aren’t necessarily prohibited from starting the application process while still completing some courses. That said, admission is competitive, and the better prepared you are before applying, the more likely you’ll get accepted to the program of your choice.

This means that the better your grades are on your nursing prerequisites, the more options you’ll have when deciding where you want to go.

Nursing assistants work in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day health centers, even personal homes. Wherever there is a need for personal medical care and assistance, CNA’s are often the one’s who perform the most basic needs for patients, young and old alike. They often work under the supervision of a nurse. Since aides have extensive daily contact with each patient, they are key to providing vital information on the patients’ conditions to the nurse.

Are you interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and attending the best nursing school? Certified Nursing Assistants, or CNA’s are a very important part of the health care team that includes many personnel outside of nurses. A CNA helps to provide routine care so that licensed nurses can provide care that only they can perform, depending on the state’s Nurse Practice Acts, such as giving medications, creating care plans, nursing assessments, even assisting in surgery room preparation.

In order to become a CNA, you must go through Certified Nursing Assistant training, then take and pass your CNA exam.

Once you gain your certification, you are assured the security of lifelong employment opportunities, good earnings, and the opportunity to help people!

The qualities necessary to be a Certified Nursing Assistant are very similar to the qualities needed in nursing. A CNA should be caring, patient, willing and able to do some physically strenuous activities. Most importantly, they should have the desire to help.

The health care profession comprises many different types of travel nurse jobs – especially LPN travel jobs. These jobs in both the private and public sectors are for licensed practical nurse (LPN) positions.

Each branch of the military also recruits qualified applicants for LPN travel jobs, as well as many other government agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control, or CDC. There is such a high demand for nurses, and it is expected to continue this way for many years. Most nursing school programs are filled up and operating at peak capacity. Even still, they aren’t able to meet growing demand for nurses.

LPN travel jobs are among those in very high demand. All traveling nurse jobs can expect extremely competitive salary and benefits packages. Better still, your level of compensation will continue to go up over the next 10 to 20 years. In fact, being a nurse means you are part of one of the highest paying careers that are available through a two-year degree.

As a traveling nurse, you must be prepared to demonstrate your nursing qualifications anywhere and at any time. Being a traveling nurse means being prepared, being time conscious, being realistic, and aware of your particular job functions at that particular assignment.

LANDSTUHL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, Germany – As a Wounded Warrior in transition, Jennifer Trenkelbach saw a long-term opportunity and seized it.

As a result, the Army specialist is one of 12 volunteers to graduate from what is believed to be the first American Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training Program offered at a Military Treatment Facility.

While assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Trenkelbach’s mission is to heal from a foot injury while a determination is made whether she will be able to remain in the Army or transition to civilian life. Trenkelbach hopes to remain in the military, but her newfound nursing skills will provide the opportunity to explore other career opportunities in the event she transitions to civilian life.

“I’ve always wanted to get into nursing, and it also gives me a chance to volunteer,” Trenkelbach said during the final week of the four-week course consisting of 168 hours of classroom and hands-on experience. The course was developed and taught by Red Cross officials, nurses and education specialists at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

And much like her career as a Soldier, Trenkelbach said she likes the aspect of working her way up from the ground floor as a nursing assistant. Colonel Roy Harris appreciates her work ethic and the valuable role that Trenkelbach and her fellow volunteers will assume at LRMC and other military treatment facilities and civilian hospitals. Harris began his medical career as a civilian orderly and is now Chief, Clinical Nursing, at LRMC.

“A certified nursing assistant is an integral person in providing total patient care,” Harris said, noting the role CNAs provide in patient care includes feeding, bathing, taking vital signs and transporting patients throughout the hospital.

The CNA program is ideal, Harris said, because it helps encourage nursing assistants to become nurses and it helps provide more time for nurses to focus on their primary responsibilities.

“I hope they become volunteers here at LRMC and build on what they have learned,” said Harris. So does 1st Lt. Melanie Silva, an Army nurse who helped provide training to the corps of volunteer students.

“Having an extra set of hands available as we coordinate the flow of the floor is a huge help,” said Silva.

That was the end state that Susanne Harlandt had in mind when she conceived the innovative training program as station chief for the American Red Cross at LRMC — fill an ongoing need for certified nursing assistants and help family members at the same time.

“We see this as a win-win-win situation for all concerned,” Harlandt said. “The family members gain new skills, the hospital gains new skilled volunteers, and the American Red Cross gains an ability to promote its mission of Red Cross nursing.” She plans to offer the CNA course twice each year.

Historically, Red Cross nurses have provided assistance during times of disaster and conflict, beginning with the 1888 yellow fever epidemic and the 1889 Johnstown flood. Red Cross nursing has also had a major role in the historical evolution of nursing and nursing leadership in the United States. Red Cross nurses, including Jane Delano, Clara Noyes, Julia Stimson and others have played strategic roles in the development of American nursing.

Today more than 30,000 nurses are involved in paid and volunteer capacities at all levels and in all service areas throughout the American Red Cross. To continue the growth of this mission, the Red Cross unveiled the CNA program to train participants in basic nursing assistant skills with the hope that the students would develop a keen interest in nursing and continue on to become nurses.

The American Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training Program, consistent with federal requirements, was designed with input from educators, caregivers and long-term care industry representatives from across the United States. The course content provides consistent guidelines enabling students to provide quality care for people in the health care system. Students are required be active in the learning process, which emphasizes experiential learning through didactic, laboratory and clinical means.

Students at LRMC were ideal candidates for the program, said Lt. Col. Patricia Born, educational director at LRMC. The volunteers were typically older, brought more life experience and were motivated to learn.

This course has typically been offered through civilian Red Cross chapters in the U.S. The typical curriculum focuses primarily on long-term care; however, at LRMC many of the patients include Wounded Warriors injured in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom who are often at LRMC for only a few days before continuing to the U.S. for extended care. Since their needs and type of care are different from patients in long-term care, the course material was supplemented with specific training to meet those unique needs.

The course was taught by 14 staff LRMC nurses and included 168 hours of instruction followed by 40 hours of clinicals, where each student was able to gain hands-on experience in several areas of the hospital – to include the Medical-Surgical Wards, Pediatric Clinic and Emergency Department.

Once finished, the students received a certificate of completion and a card indicating they can perform duties as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Many of them have already been placed into an area of the hospital as a Red Cross Volunteer. When the students ultimately return to the U.S. and confirm their training complies with their State Nursing Boards, they will be able to volunteer or gain employment as a CNA in a civilian medical facility of their choice. The LRMC curriculum was developed so that volunteers would meet the minimum standards of all 50 states.

Katherine Bega was previously a licensed CNA in the U.S., but her license expired, so the Red Cross program fit perfectly into her plan to become recertified and begin work as a volunteer at LRMC.

For Chris Steed, the CNA program was also attractive as a family member living overseas. “I felt it was a good opportunity to expand my horizons. I’m interested in nursing and this is a good stepping stone,” said Steed.

Many people like the idea of becoming a nurse, working in the health care field, taking care of people. I know it’s something I considered for a long time.

Like me, I’m sure there are those who wonder whether they “have what it takes” to work in the field. While not every nursing job deals in “blood & guts”, that’s what comes to mind for many of us: emergency rooms, or delivering babies, or cleaning up after some infirm, dying individual.

But of course that isn’t all that nursing is. There are plenty of jobs in “clean” areas like hospital administration, working with insurers, mental health facilities, etc.

So what does it take to be a nurse? Well, I think chief on that list would be compassion. This is why we become nurses in the first place. Patience is another quality high on the list. Smarts – getting through nursing school isn’t easy!

Here is a good article that pretty much sums it all up: Qualities needed in nursing.

There are so many resources online related to the field, but most of them relate to the “science” aspect, or the “blood & guts” aspects.

I think that general qualities of a person are at least as important!

Become A Certified Nursing Assistant With CNA Classes

There are many different nursing school programs out there today, but which one should you choose? Are you confused about what differentiates one type of nurse from another? This article will introduce you to a few programs and what kind of nurse you can become.

If you’re interested in becoming a nurse assistant, you may be interested in the Red Cross CNA class (Certified Nursing Assistant). Though you can get this certification through many nursing programs, the Red Cross offers a nationally recognized program.

The traditional entry-level position in nursing is considered to be the Certified Nursing Assistant. They are also known as a nurse’s aide because they take their orders directly from more highly trained nurses. To become a CNA, college is not required. There are vocational programs available that generally only take a few weeks to fully complete. After your educational courses and practical training are complete, you can become certified in your state and begin work. The CNA, however, has limited responsibility. You will find yourself feeding and bathing patients, checking vital signs, and performing other non-invasive tasks.

You may want to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. They can do the work of the CNA plus medicate, perform injections, and take note of a patient’s progress. These nurses follow the instructions of the RN. This position provides more in-depth care and demands a slightly more intense education. You will have to obtain an associate’s degree in nursing, a one to two year endeavor. Also, you will be required to pass the NCLEX-PN exam before licensure.

The Registered Nurse or RN is the most sought after class of nurse. They are able to perform all the work of the CNA and LPN. However, they have more a more crucial role to fill. They are involved in serious procedures and surgeries and answer only to the presiding doctors. While you can find work as an RN with only an associate’s nursing degree, the majority of employers prefer a four-year bachelor’s degree. No matter which course you choose, you still will have to take and pass an exam called NCLEX-RN. Then you can be licensed and start working.

Once you are a licensed nurse, you can still continue your education if you desire. These programs are found at traditional universities and colleges. For example, if you are an RN that only has an associate’s degree, you can enter an RN to BSN program. Completed, this will let you obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. There is a similar program available for the LPN. Also, there are other graduate programs available all the way up to a PhD.

So, now that you know more about the different forms of nurses and nursing school programs, including the Red Cross CNA class, you can decide which one matches your personality. The CNA requires the least amount of education while the LPN and RN take more time and study. The health care field is always growing, so your job outlook is good!

Welcome to Nursing School Info. This blog will provide information to prospective nurses and those considering the healthcare career.

In addition to information about various programs and requirements, we’ll provide links to resources and schools.

One of the first things we’ll talk about is Licensed Practical Nursing.

Due to the nationwide shortage of qualified nursing personnel, there are more online LPN nursing classes than ever before. An LPN or LVN is a nurse who works in hospitals, doctor’s offices and in almost any other setting. There are only a few duties that the RN is charged to carry out that an LPN can not do. The average starting pay for an LPN nationwide is 30-35K per year and this figure will definitely continue to climb, especially in the next few years.

The general qualifications for an individual to be accepted into any online LPN nursing classes or to be licensed as an LPN is that you be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or a GED. There are some basic courses in science, English and math courses that you need to have completed, and you can take these before you take any of your first online LPN nursing classes.

All nursing students will have to have clinical hours that are performed under RN supervision in the hospital and your school will arrange this for you. Schools with online LPN nursing classes will let you take many of the courses at home and you can arrange these classes according to some fairly flexible times. Your work is submitted online and graded. You are always kept up to date on your progress and all of the online courses are completely interactive.

With online LPN nursing classes offered and guaranteed job availability, there has never been a better time to take advantage of being in the medical field. The online LPN nursing classes can take from 12 months to 2 years to complete. You will then take the national NCLEX-PN exam. If you pass this test you will then be licensed as an LPN. You only have to take the national exam once. When you receive your nursing license you can apply for your licensing in other states as well.

Next post we’ll talk about getting a CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant degree.
